Voting is only one half of the solution. This week prompts wants you to think about the other half, "Community."
Click the link in the bio to send us up to three haiku related to this prompt by November 10th for a chance to be featured in our weekly publication. HIA is selective, but we encourage submissions from all writers and poets, no matter the skill level. Our judges look forward to reading your poetry each week.
Look for selected haiku from last week's prompt to be announced this Friday, November 8th.

Embrace hope as a practice this Saturday at Small Works! Another performer just added!
Tooba Hussain is an award-winning spoken word artist and attorney at a multinational law firm. She is the daughter of working-class parents who immigrated to the U.S. in 1996 in search of opportunity. After graduating from Rutgers University, Ms. Hussain earned her JD from Georgetown Law, becoming a lawyer at the age of 23. She advocates for social justice through her poetry and pro bono work, which spans prisoners’ rights litigation, immigration defense, and landlord-tenant disputes. Above all, she is a believer in a better world.
Join Tooba and Dimo Ortiz, Taylor Alyson Lewis, Vriddhi Vitay, and Soula for an intimate evening of poetry, music, and performance at the Philadelphia Small Works Gallery. "Hope as a Practice" brings together artists and organizers who are not just creating, but actively cultivating hope as a disciplined practice in their work and communities.
This event celebrates the intersections between art and social justice, where performers share stories that explore how hope fuels the ongoing journey toward equity and connection in Philly.
Tickets are $10, with 50% of the proceeds going directly to the performers and 50% to purchase esim donations for Palestinians to get proper internet and communication access. Advance tix recommended!
**MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT** We will have masks available at the door if you forget.
~Saturday, September 28
~Doors at 6:30
~Free parking across the street or around the corner on Susquehanna
~Beer and wine (and NA options) available for donation (no outside beverages please)

"World Without asks readers to consider their relationships to the things that make our reality real. This collection suggests a series of alternative realities, each of which might test our ability to accept change. The worlds without hands, mirrors, museums, doctors, etc. presented in these short poems are strange, but also familiar. In each scenario, we consider the small and significant things that make our world familiar—and the deletions that make it unfamiliar.
